Brisa Hennessy Triumphs in Women's Surfing Round 1 at the 2024 Paris Olympics

In an exhilarating start to the surfing events at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Brisa Hennessy from Costa Rica dominated Women's Round 1 - Heat 5 at the legendary Teahupo'o, Tahiti. Hennessy, known for her impressive track record, showcased her skills by scoring a remarkable total of 15.56 points. This performance not only secured her a first-place finish in her heat but also marked a significant moment as she continues to make her mark in the sport.

Hennessy, who has previously competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she finished 5th and has a rich history of accomplishments including two Junior World Championships and a recent win at the Hurley Pro in Hawaii, demonstrated her prowess by consistently scoring high on her waves. Her best wave score was an impressive 8.33, with judges awarding scores of 8.8, 8.0, and 8.5 to her top rides.

Following closely behind Hennessy was France's Johanne Defay, who finished second with a total of 9.50 points. Defay, a seasoned competitor, has earned multiple medals at the World Surfing Games, including a silver in 2017 and two bronze medals in 2023 and 2024. Her performance in this heat reflects her status as one of the top surfers in the world.

Completing the top three was Nicaragua's Candelaria Resano, who made history as the first Nicaraguan surfer to compete in the Olympics. Resano scored 9.43 points and showed great potential despite her World Tour debut still ahead.

The event was officiated by a panel of esteemed judges, including Richard Pierce Jr. from the USA and Luiz Steffen Pereira from Brazil, ensuring that the competition was held to the highest standards.
